Stelios grew up in New York, and majored in architecture with a minor in painting at Princeton University, studying under Michael Graves. During college, he worked summers at the Guggenheim Museum where he developed an interest in abstract expressionism. "My first true exposure to modernism in paint was when I helped physically assemble—along the ramps of the Guggenheim—the big canvases of Kenneth Noland. I was intrigued by his precision, his geometries, his obsession with circles and targets, the imperfect textures, some of the spontaneity of the paint, unusual color juxtapositions that were not always beautiful but strangely thought-provoking.". Stelios went on to follow the work of such painters as Agnes Martin, Jasper Johns, Frank Stella and Robert Motherwell.

Stelios undertook a career in business for much of his adult life, working for such big corporations as Grey Advertising, Procter & Gamble, L'Oréal, and Yves Rocher. He finished his career as Chief Marketing Officer of Coty, Inc., one of the world's leading beauty companies which manufactures and markets fragrances, cosmetics and skincare products. "I always wanted to prove I could succeed in something was NOT creative, as I was naturally experiemtal in my thoughts and thought processes."

"I focused on what I thought were my weaknesses, not my strengths. My entire adult life I applied

myself rigorously to excel in domains that were more quantitative, mathematic, organizational,

on a big corporate scale."
