NEW YEAR’S EVE 30" x 30” November 3, 2014 (SOLD)
I broke my own tradition with vertical stripes—capturing the glittering revelry of a New Year's Eve party in tones of red, purple, gold, yellow—colors I normally would consider garish but here were completely warranted.
This was the first time I sheared dissonant shades into each other with a wide brush—like dancers pushing and writhing in a crowd—without blending them. The vertical stripes were a conscious reference to pleats, hems, drapes, chandeliers—all things dangling that flirted their color and shine.
New Year's Eve was also an homage to my mother's birthday—which was, year after year, a memorable celebration for a sparkling personality.
