SAND SKY 30" x 30” May 17, 2015
Sand Sky was an exploration of wide ethereal spaces which breathed in three large bands of color, "belted in" with two thinner bands that evoked sand and texture. I loved the impressionistic migrations from soft blue to light tan, which were a psychological blurring of experiencing sand and sky at the same time. It evoked one of those moments when I walked on an empty beach and felt confronted with vast swaths of sky and sand--overwhelming yet serene at the same time. Underneath the placidity was, of course, some urgency, and here again I was experimenting with different formats of stripes that lent themselves to the freer content of this painting.
